San Luis Coastal USD is pleased to announce our new superintendent, Eric Prater, who left Byron Union School District to take the top job here at SLCUSD. Dr. Prater had been with the Byron district for 11 years, about two and a half as superintendent. Prior to Byron, he was in the Brentwood Union School District. We welcome Dr. Prater to our district and look forward to the 2010-11 school year!

County Teacher-of-the-Year: Cathy Ahearn

We are pleased to announce that Cathy Ahearn has been selected as the San Luis Obispo County Teacher of the Year out of all the schools in the county. Cathy is an extremely gifted teacher at Laguna Middle School who works primarily with English Learners. Cathy has assumed integral roles at the school site, has shared her services and expertise in teaching our CTEL preparation courses, assists with summer school (former summer school Principal), serves on the Single Subject Advisory Committee at Cal Poly, and volunteers as a 4-H leader every summer to support children at the Mid-State Fair. Cathy was our District's selection as Teacher of the Year as well. Please join us in offering our congratulations to Cathy!

Zoltan Shapiro, freshman at SLOHS, won fifth place at the National SkillsUSA competition that took place in Kansas City June 20-25. Students were scored in nine areas with Zoltan receiving a perfect score in two of them. He also received his A+ certification. Congratulations to Zoltan and his teacher, Jan Fetcho!
